Our Community

There is no Us without You

St. Luke's Cathedral Choir enhances the experience of worship and leads the congregation in celebrating the word of the Lord through song. The choir sings during the 10:30 a.m. service, the monthly Evensong, and special Cathedral events. If requested, the choir will also sing at funerals and weddings.

The Cathedral Choir is led by Cathedral Organist and Choirmaster Stephen Mallinger. It is a four-voice mix choir including soprano, alto, tenor, and bass (SATB). On average, being a choir member is a four hour a week commitment, and anyone who likes to sing is welcome to join. The choir practices every Thursday and sings

Anglican Church Women (ACW)

In April 1885, Roberta Tilton headed a seven-woman delegation that proposed the founding of the Women’s Auxiliary for the Missionary Society of the Church of England in Canada. Their efforts were welcomed with enthusiasm and the first Women’s Auxiliary was established. Today, the Women’s Auxiliary is known as the Anglican Church Women (ACW) group. All Anglican women are considered members even if they are not actively involved in ACW meetings or functions.

St. Luke’s Cathedral’s ACW group has served our community for several generations. The women of St. Luke’s ACW raise funds year-round for various programs and charities that make positive impacts on our community. Through leadership and hard work the women of St. Luke’s ACW coordinate their talents to host successful charity events. These events include bake sales, rummage sales, as well as the annual Cookie Walk, Winterfest, and Loonie Lunch.

Altar Guild

The Junior Girls’ & Boys’ Auxiliary is made up of youth ages 5 to 17, and team leaders from Anglican churches, other denominations, and the Sault community. The program runs from October to April and features drama, music, scripture, crafts, games, fundraisers and parties.

The program is lead by ten core leaders who offer their many skills as teachers and coaches. The goal of the program is to give young people a sense of self-worth and encourage them to try new things. The program is based on these five aims: to pray; to learn; to work; to give, and to tell.

The program offers a diverse range of activities and events for its members. One of the highlights of the program is the annual Christmas play. Members can choose to be actors or help behind the scenes. Other events include fundraisers for charities the youth members choose to support.

Sunday School

St. Luke’s Sunday School program runs from September to June during the 10:30 a.m. Sunday service and welcomes students ages 3 to 13. During the service, the Fellowship room, located near the Brock Street entrance of the Cathedral, becomes the Sunday School clubhouse.

At Sunday School clubhouse, volunteer teachers educate the students following the curricula of The Whole People of God program. This thoughtful and engaging program encourages students to explore and learn about their faith by participating in crafts, games, music, puppet shows and group projects.

Throughout the year there are also special events and projects for the children to participate in such as selling Hot Cross Buns during Holy Week and our annual Easter Egg Hunt. During the Advent season, the children make and sell Christmas ornaments and participate in the annual Nativity pageant which is a highly anticipated event.
